Getting Started

The game begins with players betting their chips into the pot. In most games, the player to the left of the dealer must ante a small amount, called the “small blind,” and the player to the right of the dealer must ante a large amount, called the “big blind.”

Dealing Cards

After the antes are paid, each player is dealt two cards. These cards are kept secret from the rest of the players. Once the cards are dealt, players take turns betting into the pot.

Betting is done in clockwise order, and is continued until a player folds or a raise is made. The highest hand that hasn’t folded wins the pot.

When betting is over, a showdown takes place. If there is more than one hand in contention, then a showdown is held, where each hand is revealed and the winner takes the pot.
